The Coral Sea is a critically important and significant ecosystem, which (like coral reefs globally) is increasingly threatened by changing environmental conditions, particularly ocean warming.
James Cook University was commissioned by Parks Australia to assess the current condition of benthic, fish and invertebrate communities across twelve reefs within the southern and central Coral Sea Marine Park in 2025.
This report details the key findings of the surveys conducted in June and October 2025.
